The original structure, built in 1773 A.D during the reign of Karim Khan Zand, consisted of four stone columns at the centre, the north and south sides of which were open .On each of the other two sides a room had been built. In 1930’s, by direction of the Ministry of Education, the Mausoleum of Hafez acquired its present form.

Hafez was born in Shiraz in 1315 and died there in 1390. A beloved figure of the Iranian people, who have learnt his verses by heart. Little is known of Hafez, whom is now considered one of the greatest Iranian poets, loved near and far.

Most definitely one of the most popular attractions in Shiraz, and I can completely understand why. I had to visit it twice! It’s clean and very well-kept gardens, lovely orange trees and ponds. It hosts a tea house on site where you can relax and take in it’s breath-taking and astonishing beauty. They also have a store where you can purchase souvenir’s to remember this amazing place.

This place will make you want to keep going back. It has a warm feeling the minute you enter.
